Download this 16 slide ‘Getting it Wrong and Forgiving’ PowerPoint for an assembly, PSHE, or lesson about forgiveness.  This PowerPoint will encourage children to think about how everyone can say, or do, the wrong thing from time to time and it is important to recognise when we get things wrong.

Explain that forgiving is the act of giving someone or something another chance and that forgiving normally comes after negative emotions such as anger or disappointment towards someone or something and why forgiving is important.   Discuss with your class, or school what to do if you have ‘got it wrong’, (e.g. move your self away, apologise and try to help and reinforce strategies of how we can forgive others (e.g by putting your feelings into words, forgiving the small things, showing compassion and empathy, giving the person another chance, taking responsibility for your part and being kind).

The PowerPoint concludes with a focus for reflection (It takes strength of character to be able to forgive other people.  People who can forgive others can feel the peace that forgiveness brings) and the Lord’s Prayer – either or both of which can be used at the end of the session.

A great resource to use to prompt children’s understanding of forgiveness and is especially relevant during the period of Lent and as Easter approaches.
