Download this 21-slide PowerPoint ‘Life is a Tapestry’ to encourage children to think about their thoughts, actions and feelings/emotions.  This useful PSHE or assembly resource will help children understand that what they think and do will affect how they feel, realise that what other people say, or do, can make them feel different emotions and that many people don’t always show their emotions or feel they are ‘good enough’.

The PowerPoint will support children’s thinking as they imagine they are a tapestry, made up of millions of different coloured threads – each one coloured in by their ‘inner monkey’.  The PowerPoint explains that the colour of the tapestry threads is influenced by feelings or emotions that they have experienced during their life and the slides will help them to understand that realising how they have felt in different situations can help them make a change in the future.

Using the example of a boy who feels sad (or blue) when he is ignored because his dad is often on his mobile phone instead of paying attention to him, children are encouraged to realise that the boy can make a change by talking to his dad about his feelings – and the children in your class can also realise they can make changes in their own lives too.

The PowerPoint helps us all understand that we can all help design our own colourful tapestries by realising that what we think and do affect the way we feel.
